The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of Curtis Street. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire on the rear of the residence that had extended into the attic and main living area. Firefighters were initially unable to access the back of the home due to a downed electrical line. First- arriving crews quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack through the front entrance and successfully extinguished the fire. Evergy personnel arrived promptly and secured the downed electrical line, allowing firefighters to safely complete overhaul operations.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. Fire damage was contained primarily to the rear of the structure and the attic. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Hutchinson Fire Department would like to thank Reno County EMS, Reno County Emergency Communications, Evergy, Kansas Gas, the City of Hutchinson Public Works Department, and the Hutchinson Police Department for their assistance during this incident.
