HUTCHINSON, Kan. – July 27, 2026- Beyond Barriers is pleased to announce the addition of four new members to its Board of Directors, as well as a newly-elected Board Chair and Vice Chair.
The organization welcomes Em Moss, Tara Hood (Goss), Todd Wilson, and Gavin Lusk, each bringing unique perspectives, skills, and a shared commitment to disability justice, accessibility, and community inclusion. In addition, board member Sharon Swearer was named Board Chair and Gavin Lusk was named Vice Chair. Their appointments strengthen Beyond Barriers’ leadership as the organization continues advancing independence and opportunity for individuals with disabilities across the region.
What sets Beyond Barriers apart is its dedication to lived experience in leadership. In accordance with its bylaws, more than 50% of the organization’s Board of Directors must be individuals with disabilities—ensuring that decisions are informed by those most impacted. This commitment reflects the organization’s belief that “no decisions should be made about us without us.”

Beyond Barriers a disability resource organization headquartered at 115 East 4th Street in Hutchinson, with satellite offices in Dodge City and Pratt, and provides employment services, independent living resources, vision services, advocacy, and education at no cost to consumers. The organization serves individuals with all types of disabilities, regardless of disability status or documentation, through a “zero-entry” approach designed to remove barriers and expand access to support.
The Board of Directors meets every other month and plays a key role in governance, strategic direction, and community engagement—helping ensure Beyond Barriers remains responsive, inclusive, and grounded in the principles of the Independent Living Movement.
