HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hutchinson City Council appointed councilmember Darrin Truan as Vice Mayor during its regular meeting on Tuesday. In his new role, Truan will serve alongside Mayor Scott Meggers as the City Council works for Hutchinson residents. The appointment follows the resignation of former Vice Mayor Greg Fast, who stepped down on October 5th citing personal reasons.
In addition to appointing a new Vice Mayor, the City of Hutchinson is currently accepting applications from eligible community members interested in filling the vacant Southwest District seat on the City Council.
Applicants can complete an online form detailing their background, passion for community leadership, and overall vision for addressing key issues within the Southwest District and across Hutchinson.
Following the close of submissions, members of the City Council will evaluate candidates, conduct interviews, and appoint a representative to the position. The appointee will serve until the municipal election in November 2027. Whomever wins that election will fulfill the remaining term for the district through December 2029.
City officials invite all qualified community members who want to advocate for their neighborhood and help guide the future of Hutchinson to submit an application. Submissions are open through November 18th, 2026, and interested residents can complete their form online at hutchinsonks.gov.
