HUTCHINSON, Kan. – [October 6, 2026]- The City of Hutchinson received the resignation of Councilman Greg Fast, who represented the Southwest District on the Hutchinson City Council. His resignation was effective October 5, 2026.

In his official resignation, Councilman Fast stated:

“I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the citizens of Hutchinson for the last five years. Effective immediately, I will be resigning as council member for the southwest district for personal reasons.”

The City appreciates Councilman Fast’s service to the Hutchinson community and the residents of the Southwest District during his years on the City Council.

Mayor Scott Meggers formally acknowledged the resignation at the beginning of the October 6 City Council meeting.

With the resignation, a vacancy now exists for the Southwest District seat on the Hutchinson City Council. During Tuesday evening’s meeting, Council members discussed next steps and agreed to take up the process for filling the vacancy at the October 20 City Council meeting.

At that meeting, Council will discuss the process for filling the Southwest District seat, including how interested residents may apply, qualifications for appointment and the anticipated timeline for selecting a new council member.

“We want this to be an open, fair, and transparent process,” Mayor Meggers said.

Additional information regarding the Southwest District vacancy and application process will be shared following the October 20 City Council meeting.
