Garrett Gleason Takes Four Gold Medals as Buhler Boys, Girls Dominate 4A Track Regional

Buhler High School sophomore Garrett Gleason captured four first-place gold medals at the Kansas Class 4A regional track meet Thursday at Buhler’s Crusader Stadium.

Gleason won the 100-meter dash (10.78 seconds), 200-meter dash (22.03 seconds), high jump (6 feet, 4 inches) and long jump (20 feet, 4.5 inches).

Gleason and the Buhler High School boys and girls track teams dominated the competition at the 4A region on their home turf.

The Crusader boys scored 184 points and the Buhler girls scored 183 points to capture the regional championships.

 

McPherson High School’s boys placed second with 105 points and the Bullpup girls finished second with 95 points.

In the boys team standings, Towanda-Circle placed third with 70 points, followed by Augusta 56, Chapman 51, Clay Center Community 48, Concordia 35 and Abilene 20.

Concordia placed third in the first team standings with 76 points, followed by Clay Center Community 75, Augusta 52, Abilene 40, Chapman 39, Towanda-Circle 32 and El Dorado 10.

Other Buhler boys regional champions are Gavin Lindahl, 1600 (4:33.4) and 3200 (10:00.14); Zach Friesen, 110 hurdles (14.43) and 300 hurdles (41.01); 4×800 relay (8:26.64); and Max Harmony, pole vault (14 feet).

Buhler regional girls champions are Corbin Starkweather, 1600 (5:20.09); Sofia Spies, 100 (12.35); Jenna Lackey, 200 (25.81) and pole vault (11 feet); Isabella Rivera, 800 (5:20.09); 4×100 relay (49.56 seconds); 4×800 relay (9:47.84); and Jessa Losew, high jump (5-2).

McPherson’s Caden Wenderott placed first in the boys discus (156-11). Bullpup girls regional champions are Brynn Littlejohn, shout put (35-11) and Andi Buschbom, long jump (17-3).

Other regional boys winners are Aiden Hall, Chapman, 400 (54.94); Jace Thomas, Augusta, 800 (1:57.56); Circle, 4×100 relay (43.88); Clay Center, 4×400 relay (3:32.79); Aymon Oliver, Circle, shot put (52-2); Jarrin Brumfield, Clay Center, javelin (164-9); and Peyton Wight, El Dorado, triple jump (42-7.5).

Other regional girls winners are Ragan Pfeifer, Augusta, 400 (1:00.85); Emily Hein, Circle, 3200 (11:15.44); Tessa Herrman, Abilene, 100 hurdles (16.33); Abigail Gaston, Chapman, 300 hurdles (48.13); Clay Center, 4×400 relay (4:10.25); Ramie Lipker, Clay Center, discus (120-6); Halie Koppes, Clay Center, javelin (134-1); and Tatum Johnson, Clay Center, triple jump (36-0.5).

Placing second for the Buhler girls were Sofia Spies, 200 (25.96); Isabella Friesen, 1600 (5:20.23); Corbin Starkweather, 3200 (11:31.08); Bayleigh Miller, 100 hurdles (16.41); and Sabella Regier, pole vault (10-0).

Placing third for the Buhler girls were Jenna Lackey, 100 (12.7); Isabella Rivera, 1600 (5:20.38); Addsyn Keller, long jump (16-3); and Lauren Welch, javelin (108-7).

Placing fourth for the Buhler girls were Bayleigh Miller, 300 hurdles (48.95); and 4×400 relay team (4:14.31).

Placing second for the Buhler boys were the 4×100 relay team (43.89); Gabe Auxier, discus (152-8); and Median Lee-McGlynn, shot put (49-5.5).

Placing third for the Buhler boys were Eli White, 400 (52.43); Owen Kneisel, 300 hurdles (15.68); Kodi Applegate, pole vault (13-0); Jacob Miller, javelin (155-3); and William Griffin, shot put (48-6.5).

Placing fourth for the Buhler boys were Ryan Cherry, 3200 (10:03.41); Owen Kneisel, 110 hurdles (15.68); Dexter Fleeman, high jump (6-2); and Carthrae Courson, long jump (19-4.5).

According to Page 24 of the KSHSAA 2025-26 Track and Field Manual, in all regionals, winners of the top three places (including relays) will qualify for the Kansas State Track and Field Championship Track Meet May 29-30 at Wichita State University’s Crossland Stadium (formerly known as Cessna Stadium).

The next six best performances in each event will qualify for the State Track and Field Meet.

No more than four at-large qualifiers can come from the same regional. It is not possible to finish eighth at regionals and qualify for the state meet.

Only times run in the finals shall be used to determine at-large qualifiers for the state meet.

Times from prelims may not be used to determine at-large qualifiers to the state meet.

In the event of ties for third place, the tie-breaking procedure shall be used.
