One Teenager Stable, One in Custody Following Carey Park Shooting

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — On May 13th, 2026, at 8:21 P.M., officers with the Hutchinson Police Department, along with personnel from the Hutchinson Fire Department and Reno County EMS, were dispatched to the river, near Hobart-Detter Field in Carey Park, in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located a 14-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered first aid until EMS personnel arrived. The juvenile was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for initial treatment and was later transferred to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for further care. The victim is currently in stable condition.

During the investigation, a 16-year-old male was taken into custody and transported to Reno County Youth Shelter Detention for aggravated battery, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a weapon, and possession of THC.
