Nine New Personal Bests at the KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship

WICHITA, Kan. – Sterling College Track and Field competed at the 2026 KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Thursday and Friday, April 30-May 1. The Warriors posted nine new personal bests at the meet with the men finishing seventh as a team with 31 points and the women finishing ninth as a team with 12.5 points.

Blake Robertson led the team on the men’s side, totaling 13 of the team points. He started the meet with a personal best throw in the hammer throw with a heave of 53.28m (174-10) to finish third. Also throwing a personal best in the hammer throw was Brayden Kermode, who finished 12th with a throw of 41.38m (135-9).

Calen Wente and Keaton Miller also competed in the hammer throw where they placed 17th and 23rd with marks of 36.01m (118-2) and 31.29m (102-8), respectfully.

Robertson also scored points in the discus throw, finishing in fourth with a throw of 46.10m (154-2). Wente, Miller and Kermode also competed in the discus placing 11th, 18th and 19th with throws of 41.03m (134-7), 34.57m (113-5) and 33.76m (110-7), respectively. Robertson finished out the meet with a seventh-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.01m (49-3). Miller and Kermode also competed in the shot put where they finished 19th and 22nd with throws of 12.24m (40-2) and 11.38m (37-4), respectively.

Rounding out the throws were James Dickerman and Tod Mastin who finished 16th and 18th in the javelin throw with marks of 39.24m (128-9) and 36.51m (119-9), respectively.

Charles Jones also contributed points in the jumps, totaling 11 points with top five finishes in the triple jump and the long jump. He finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 14.25m (46-9) and finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 7.09m (23-3.25). Cameron Salazar also competed in the long jump where he finished 20th with a jump of 5.39m (17-8.25).

Also contributing points in the jumps was Cedric Wilson, who finished fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.98m (6-6). He also scored points on the track with a personal best time of 15.47 in the 110m Hurdles to qualify for the finals and a final time of 15.53 to finish sixth, for a total of seven points.

Other personal best performances on the track include Camryn Gantt in the 5000m run where he finished 18th with a time of 16:39.83 and Jace Gaston who ran a time of 4:40.89 in the 1500m run to finish 28th. David Sullivan ran a personal best time of 51.94 in the 400m dash to finish 20th. He also competed in the 200m dash where he ran a time of 23.40 to finish 27th in the preliminaries.

Closing things out for the Warriors on the track were Wesley Brantley and Jacob Tonne who finished 35th and 36th in the 800m run with times of 2:17.08 and 2:17.64, respectively.

On the women’s side, Aliya McClanahan led the team with eight points, finishing fifth in both the discus throw and javelin throw. She had a mark of 38.41m (126-0) in the discus and a throw of 33.79m (110-10) in the javelin.

Also competing in the throws was Briana Croisant. She finished 14th in the javelin with a throw of 26.80m (87-11) and 21st in the hammer throw with a heave of 32.98m (108-2).

Belle Barnett was also a points contributor in the high jump where she finished tied for third with a clearance of 1.59m (5-2.5) to earn 4.5 points.

Rounding out the field events was Sheridan Nguyen who had a personal best performance in the long jump with a mark of 4.35m (14-3.25) to finish 18th. She also matched her personal best in the pole vault where she placed 12th with a clearance of 2.33m (7-7.75).

The Lady Warriors kept posting personal best performances on the track, with all three of the distance runners posting new personal bests. In the 1500m run, Claire Miller ran a personal best time of 5:25.22 to finish 12th while Audrey Blake ran a personal best time of 6:20.66 to finish 21st. Miller also competed in the 800m run where she placed 16th with a time of 2:37.38.

Capping off the day for Sterling was Lydia Nelson who ran a personal best time of 22:07.52 in the 5000m run to place 25th.

The season continues 18 Warriors will be traveling to Wilmore, Ky. to compete in the 2026 NCCAA Track and Field Championships hosted by Asbury University on Wednesday through Friday, May 6-8.
