The 2026 KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships produced 39 state meet records, not including wheelchair events.

The state track meet took place Friday and Saturday at Wichita State University’s Crossland Stadium, formerly Cessna Stadium.

More than 20,000 fans watched 4,000 athletes compete.

Sprint records were set by Buhler’s Garrett Gleason, Blue Valley’s Maria Portela, Andale’s Rylee Meyer and Hesston’s Ashley Lehman.

Gleason broke the Class 4A state record with his first-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.63 seconds.

Gleason also broke a record in the 200-meter dash preliminaries at 21.53 seconds and placed first in the finals with a mark of 21.71 seconds.

Field events records were set by Girard’s William Bishop, South Central’s Jack Herd and Syracuse’s Bronwyn Lewis.

“Athletes across Kansas delivered one of the most historic state meets in recent memory,” said the KSHSAA on its Facebook page.

Kansas Sports Hall of Famer Carol Swenson compiled the records and performance lists this season exclusively for Sports in Kansas.
