Andale/Garden Plain Softball Splits Doubleheader at Home Against Circle

ANDALE, Kan. — The Andale/Garden Plain softball team split its doubleheader against Circle on Monday at the Andale High Sports Complex.

Andale/Garden Plain rallied in the opener for a 4-2 victory, while Circle needed a late run in the seventh inning to take game two, 5-4.

Game 1: Andale/Garden Plain 4, Circle 2

Circle scored its lone runs of the game in the first inning on a 2-run home run. It took until the fourth inning for Andale/Garden Plain to get on the board on an RBI double by Coti Hiner. Brooklyn Sele’s 2-run single gave Andale/Garden Plain a 3-2 advantage that was followed by an RBI single by Rose Molitor. 

Clare Krier went 1 ⅓ innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a strikeout, earning the win in the circle. Sele and Bella Cates each went 2-for-3 at the plate. 

Game 2: Circle 5, Andale/Garden Plain 4

Neither team could get on the scoreboard until the fifth inning when Circle scored four runs. Andale/Garden Plain cut the deficit in half on a 2-run home run by Krier. In the sixth, Taylor Grimes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 4-3, which was followed by an RBI groundout by Krier that knotted the game at four. Circle scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the seventh. Andale/Garden Plain had runners aboard in the seventh, but couldn’t tie the game and complete the sweep. 

Krier was credited with the loss, going 2 ⅓ innings, allowing one run on three hits and a strikeout. Krier went 1-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs. Andale/Garden Plain (11-5) is off until Monday, when it hosts Buhler. Pregame coverage on the Ad Astra Radio app and adastraradio.com will begin at 4:15 p.m.
