Buhler High School junior Corbin Starkweather set the all-time Kansas record for the girls 2000-meter steeplechase at the 2026 Emporia State University High School Classic Relays Friday morning with a time of 7 minutes, 15.3 seconds.
The storm-shortened meet took place at Emporia State University’s Francis G. Welch Stadium.
Kapaun-Mount Carmel freshman Maddyx Erwin placed second in the girls 2000-meter steeplechase with a time of 7:57.27. Hesston junior Mary O’Halloran place seventh with a time of 8:41.47.
Starkweather also anchored the first-place Buhler girls 1600-meter relay team, which posted a time of 22:04.47. Laney Reiff started the relay, followed by Isabella Rivera, Isabella Friesen and Starkweather.
• Hesston senior Ashley Lehman finished first in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 11.65 seconds. Buhler’s Sofia Spies placed 14th in 12.56.
Lehman also placed second in the girls pole vault by clearing 12-7. Buhler’s Jenna Lackey placed 10th by clearing 9-9.
• Buhler’s Jessa Losew, a senior at Hutchinson Central Christian who will compete at Wichita State University next year, tied for second in the high jump with an effort of 5-2.
• Buhler’s Zac Friesen placed second in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49 seconds and teammate Landon Martinez was fifth in 14.79. Cheney’s Sam Johnson placed ninth in 15.16.
• Cheney’s Cash Young and Hesston’s Tyler Fast placed fourth and fifth in the boys 2000 steeplechase in 6:43.63 and 6:47.27. Hesston’s Levi Thompson placed ninth in 7:10.53.
• Cheney’s Autry Young and Lindsey Klinkerman placed fourth and sixth in the girls discus with throws of 125 feet, 5 inches, and 124 feet. Hesston’s Betsy Phillips placed ninth with a toss of 114-1.
• Buhler’s Gabriel Auxier placed ninth in the boys discus with a throw of 150-6. Hesston’s Josh Duerksen, Cheney’s Landon Meng and Hesston’s Drew Bartell placed 10th, 11th and 12th with marks of 147-1, 146-2 and 145-11.
• Buhler’s Dexter Fleeman tied for 11th in the boys high jump, clearing 6 feet. Teammate Garrett Gleason also cleared 6 feet and tied for 13th.
• Cheney’s Chloe Scheer placed third in the girls javelin with a toss of 119-10. Teammate Raegan Black placed seventh with an effort of 108-5. Hesston’s Betsy Phillips was 11th at 103-8.
• Hesston’s Kason Landes placed fourth in the boys javelin with a throw of 165-1. Teammate Emmet O’Halloran finished 11thwith a toss of 159-2 and Cheney’s Isaac Dietz was 13th with a throw of 157-7.
• McPherson’s Andi Buschbom and Cheney’s Autry Young placed sixth and seventh in the girls long jump with efforts of 17-4.75 and 16-11.
• Buhler’s Garrett Gleason placed sixth in the boys long jump with a mark of 21-8.5.
• Berean Academy’s Brendan Busenitz placed fourth in the boys pole vault by clearing 14-8. Buhler’s Max Harmony places seventh with a 13-8 effort.
• Cheney’s Morgan Green placed fourth in the girls triple jump with a mark of 34-11. Hesston’s Maddy Colborn placed ninth at 33-7.5.
• McPherson’s Kinnick Anderson placed seventh in the boys triple jump with a mark of 42-4.25. Cheney’s Jesse Grace placed 13th with a mark of 30-11.75.
