The Buhler High School varsity girls and boys cross country teams captured first place in the 5K races at the Sterling Invitational Thursday.
The Buhler girls ran away with the varsity 5K team title with 29 points. The Buhler boys edged Hutchinson Trinity Catholic 67-79 for first place.
Buhler senior Corbin Starkweather placed first in the varsity girls 5K race with a time of 18 minutes, 36.3 seconds.
Teammates Isabella Rivera, Kambria Brown and Isabella Friesen placed fifth, sixth and eighth with times of 20:06, 20:19.3 and 20:41.8.
Hannah Dick placed 14th with a time of 21:09, Brooklyn Beals placed 16th in 21:21.4 and Emma Smith 22nd in 22:21.9.
Buhler’s Ryan Cherry placed third in the varsity boys 5K race with a time of 15:51.2.
Teammates Noah Napier, Zayden Mendenhall and Derek Petz placed 17th, 18th and 19th with times of 17:35.8, 17:40.9 and 17:44.6. Graham McCarty placed 23rd, 17:56.2; Logan Johnson, 27th, 18:06.8; and Silas Nowlan, 28th, 18:14.7.
Buhler’s Landes Little and Samuel Hougham placed first and second in the junior varsity boys 5K race with times of 18:24.9 and 19:13.8. Tristan Black placed eighth, 21:15.4; and Taiden Torres, 21st, 25:42.4.
Buhler’s Aneesa Courson placed first in the junior varsity girls 5Krace with a time of 24:21.2. Teammate Hayley Kinast placed fourth in 25:08.8.
Nora Busenbark was 12th, 28:06.1; Evey Brooks, 14th, 28:39.8; Mira Koptieva, 20th, 30:42.3; and Harleigh Board, 22nd, 32:15.
In the freshman boys 5K race, Buhler’s Tanner Hollenbeck placed third with a time of 21:16.2.
Eli Hershberger and Isaiah Dilbeck were seventh and eighth, 21:49.3 and 21:59.3; Brock McClintock, 14th, 23:02; Asher Koster, 20th, 23:46.4; and Luke Johnson. 27th, 43:50.
In the freshman girls 5K competition, Buhler’s Hadley Starkweather placed third with a time of 23:21, followed by Jillian Gray, sixth, 25:35.4; Tessa Shaw, ninth, 26:59.7; Olivianna Mendenhall, 11th, 28:39.8; Ayanna Ulloa, 13th, 29:24; Lena Gleason, 15th, 30:00.8; and Olivia Eddington, 19th, 33:14.9.
In the eighth grade boys 2-mile race, Prairie Hills-Buhler’s Grady Rainey placed second, 12:39.5; Maddox Vaughn, fifth, 12:59.4; Andrew Busenbark, eighth, 13:15.3; Felipe DeAngelis-VanWey, 10th, 13:33.1; Aidan Snell, 13th, 14:00; Brandan Clark, 18th, 15:16.4; Parker Clough, 23rd, 16:10; and David Anderson, 25th, 16:18.1.
Prairie Hills’ Logan Bentley is the Sterling Invitational 8th grade girls 2-mile winner with a time of 13:00.8. Teammate Scarlett Willis posted a sixth-place finish in 14:33.7, followed by Bryleigh Newton, 12th, 15:47.3.
The Prairie Hills 7th grade boys captured the 1-mile team title with 46 points.
Jackson Cherry place fourth with a time of 6:05.6, followed by Colton Gill, eighth, 6:22.2; LandonHatch, 20th, 7:00.8; Kyler Myrick, 23rd, 7:1.7; Holden Vieyra, 28th, 7:14.7; and Lucas Baker, 30th, 7:18.1.
Prairie Hills’ Hannah Herrin placed seventh in the 7th grade girls 1-mile competition with a time of 7:07.7. Teammates Emma Whitney and Lucy Brooks placed 17th and 28th with times of 7:53 and 10:25.7.
