Andale/Garden Plain Softball Goes 1-1 in Andover Tri

ANDOVER, Kan. — The Andale/Garden Plain softball team took a step up and played a pair of AVCTL I and II teams on Thursday as part of a triangular at Trojan Field. 

Andale/Garden Plain opened the tri with a 12-0 victory over Andover and finished with an 18-7 loss to Maize to finish the tri with a 1-1 record.

Against Andover, Andale/Garden Plain scored two in the first, an RBI single by Emily Eck and a sacrifice fly from Rose Molitor. Eck made it 5-0 in the second on a bases clearing triple. In the third, Andale/Garden Plain scored six runs highlighted by RBI single from Taylor Grimes, a 2-run triple from Eck, an RBI single by Coti Hiner and scoring twice on two errors. Bella Cates drove in the final run in the fourth on an RBI single. 

Molitor went the distance in the circle, allowing two hits and seven strikeouts earning the win. Eck went 3-for-4 with five RBIs. 

Against Maize, Durham got things started with a solo home run in the first. Maize responded with five runs to take a 5-1 lead. Andale/Garden Plain rallied with four in the second to tie the game, highlighted by a sacrifice fly by Hiner, Durham scoring on an error, an RBI double by Molitor and an RBI single by Lexi Brasser. Maize regained the lead with two in the second. Andale/Garden Plain tied the game once again with a pair of runs in the third, an RBI double by Sele and a run scored on a steal. After that, Maize regained the lead with 11 consecutive runs over the next three innings for the run-rule victory in six innings. Clare Krier took the loss in the circle, allowing five runs on four hits and did not record an out. Durham went 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a triple.
