SHARE NOW

Last week’s rainfall put a major dent in drought conditions across southeast Kansas with much of the region seeing improvement.

This week’s US Drought Monitor upgraded nearly all areas in the Oklahoma border counties that were in severe drought last week to moderate drought this week, the only exception being parts of Chautauqua and Elk counties Most of Crawford, Neosho, and Wilson counties along with the southern edges of Allen, Bourbon and Woodson counties, which were in moderate drought last week, were upgraded to abnormally dry status The rest of southeast Kansas and all of east central Kansas is now drought free.

Elsewhere, parts of central and northwest Kansas saw a deterioration in conditions this week, as this area has largely missed out on significant precipitation over the past several weeks.

Additional rainfall is forecast across the region over the next several days, The Storm Prediction Center indicates a marginal risk for severe storms into Friday night for areas along and south of US 54 and area-wide Sunday, with a slight risk forecast for southeast Kansas Monday through Wednesday.
