The City of Iola has been named the winner of the Kansas Section of the American Water Works Association’s annual Water Taste Contest, earning recognition for having the best drinking water in the state.
The competition brought together water utilities from across Kansas, with five judges evaluating three water samples. Judges were instructed to sniff, sip, slurp, swish and swallow each sample before ranking its taste and overall quality.
Among the judges was KSN Anchor Jeff Herndon, who said he enjoys a good glass of water. Hank Corcoran Boyer, KsAWWA Section Manager, noted that water can have both a distinctive taste and smell, making those characteristics important during the judging process.
In the end, Iola, located along the Neosho River, took the top honor for best-tasting drinking water in Kansas.
