ALLEN COUNTY, Kan. — Thrive Allen County will begin accepting applications for Affordable Housing Program grants Tuesday, Feb. 17. Thrive was awarded a just over $1.4 million grant to renovate and rehabilitate 50 homes in the county from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka through an application made on Thrive’s behalf by Emprise Bank.
Thrive’s Jessica Thompson said the funds are available to Allen Country homeowners who meet low or moderate income guidelines, which is a combined monthly income at or below 80% of the county’s average median income. Eligibility for this program is broader than for others Thrive has been involved with in the past, as those targeted low-come families and veterans. Landlords are not eligible for this program
Projects that can be funded through the grant include roof and siding replacement, and weatherization work along energy efficient appliances and replacement of old carpeting with LPB and zero entry bathrooms for people having mobility issues, among others.
Thompson said the applications will be reviewed by an independent committee of local citizens, with identifying information as to name and address removed. Their intent is to see that all areas of Allen County have equal access to the grant funds.
Grant applications will be accepted until all funds have been committed. If you have questions about it, contact Patrick Zirjacks at 620-365-8128 or stop by their office at 9 N. Jefferson in Iola.
