North Newton, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Women’s Basketball team took the road to North Newton, Kan. to take on the Bethel College Threshers in their last game before Thanksgiving break.
The Swedes opened the game strong, shooting just south of 67% from the floor in the first quarter. Janae Black-Harmon and Becca Unruh combined for 18 of Bethany’s 22 points in the period. Bethel responded in the second quarter, capitalizing on Bethany’s miscues to outscore the Swedes 23-18 and go into the break tied at 40 apiece.
Although the Swedes stayed within striking distance late, the turnover disparity and Bethel’s ability to convert those opportunities proved too much to overcome. The Swedes would fall 82-73.
Janae Black-Harmon was dominant dropping 25 points and securing 15 rebounds for her second double-double of the year. Becca Unruh was just as nice scoring 25 as well with a team-high four assists.
As a team, Bethany still posted strong numbers, shooting 47.6% from the field and a perfect 100% at the free-throw line in three of the four quarters. The loss drops the Swedes to 0-2 in conference, but this contest was another show of the competitive resilience in Bethany which will come up clutch later down the road.
