In the school’s first year as an NAIA institution, Hesston College freshman Arissa Cathey is headed to the NAIA National Championship Meet after a standout performance at the Continental Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship as announced by the conference office.

The Abilene, Kan. native placed fourth overall in the women’s 6k at Holloway Park, clocking a time of 27:06.7. The top-five finish earned her First Team All-Conference honors and secured her individual qualification for nationals. Cathey will represent the Larks as the first runner to qualify for a national meet in the history of the program.

Cathey’s run at conference continues what has been a strong late-season surge. Earlier this fall, she placed seventh out of 31 runners and third among NAIA competitors at the Neosho County Invitational, recording a personal-best time of 21:50 in the 5k.

Cathey will now represent Hesston College at the NAIA National Championship Meet on Friday (November 21) in Tallahassee, Fla.
