ALLEN COUNTY, Kan. — Two items from past meetings were back before the Allen County Commission Tuesday, as it approved proceeding with purchase of new consoles for the 911 center. On a 2-1 vote Commissioner David Lee opposed, it accepted the low bid submitted at $67,725 plus installation for three consoles to replace units that were original to when the current 911 Center was built in 2007.
Commissioners also authorized proceeding with writing of software for tablets that will be used in the field by the Appraiser’s office at a cost of $10,000, plus a three-year service agreement for $3,300 a year. Appraiser Danielle Louk is working with Commissioner John Brocker on the actual tablet purchase.
During the meeting Commissioners approved salt purchases for this winter, accepting a bid from Frank Bills Trucking at 58.25 a ton for the 200 tons of salt ordered. Bills submitted the lowest of three quotes presented. Road and Bridge Supervisor Jeremy Hopkins reported they are having issues with a roller that will likely have to be replaced, and said there are surface issues on 600 Road they are currently working on.
EMS Director Michael Burnett said an ambulance rebuild has been completed, and he will be going to North Carolina in a couple of weeks to inspect it. Commissioners also approved purchase of a new ventilator unit for EMS at a cost of just over $4,800, the lowest of three quotes received.
Vehicle needs were discussed for the Allen County part of the Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department, which has seen significant cuts in funding on both the state and federal level this year including that for mileage reimbursements. The potential of using the County Appraiser vehicle was discussed at length, which Appraiser Danielle Louk had no problem with This would be used for such things as going to satellite clinics and such. They are going to check on any insurance implications this might cause.
It heard a presentation from representatives of Axios Group regarding supplemental insurance for county employees. Commissioners also approved a date change for the Nov. 11 meeting due to Veterans Day, and that meeting, which will also include the canvass of the Nov. 4 general election, will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
