McPherson School Board to Discuss Roundhouse Floor Options and Mitigation Work, Hold Budget Hearing

McPHERSON, Kan. — After a discussion of more than 1 ½ hours at a special meeting on Sept. 8, from which nothing was decided, the McPherson USD 418 Board of Education will again discuss options for the Roundhouse floor and flood mitigation work Monday evening.

Two options for mitigation were presented by Kaw Valley Engineering at last week’s special meeting along with proceeding with part of the repair work from summer flooding that destroyed the Roundhouse floor.

Five votes were taken during that meeting, none of which was able to gain the four votes needed for passage. Two board members were absent from that special meeting, and at least one of them is going to be back tonight.

Prior to their regular meeting at 6:00 p.m., Revenue Neutral Rate and budget hearings will take place. The proposed budget calls for a mill levy that will be slightly lower than the 2024-25 rate, at 52.305 mills.

For the three line items subject to the RNR – supplemental general, capital outlay, and bond and interest – the levy would be just over a tenth of a mill above what would raise the same property tax dollars this year as last. The statewide 20 mill levy does not factor into the calculation in this case as it is set by the Legislature.

The RNR hearing will be at 5:30 p.m. and budget hearing at 5:45 p.m.

Other items on the agenda include an update on facility assessment work, early graduation requests, and various other routine matters and updates.
