Monarchs drop another to Junction City

The Hutchinson Monarchs fell for the second straight night to the Junction City Brigade, losing 13-3 on Tuesday in Junction City.

It’s the first time this season the Monarchs, the Jayhawk Collegiate League champions, have lost consecutive games, and the first time they allowed double-digit runs in consecutive games. Junction City also won 14-1 on Monday. Junction City also became the first league team to win the season series against the Monarchs, as the Brigade took three out of four games.

Junction City outhit the Monarchs 10-6.

The Monarchs scored first, as Omare Cross’ sacrifice fly in the second inning scored Keegan Demmer. But Junction City answered with six runs in the bottom of the second inning and three more in the third inning.

Bradyn McClure took the loss on the mound for the Monarchs, as he gave up eight runs on four hits and three walks in 2 2/3 innings. However, just two runs were earned.

The Monarchs fell to 25-7 overall and 23-7 in league play. They’ll take Wednesday off before heading to Rose Hill on Thursday to take on the Wichita Wildcats.
