Herrmann leads Monarchs past Kingman

Jarrett Herrmann belted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs Monday, lifting the Hutchinson Monarchs to a comfortable 8-1 road win over the Kingman Islanders.

The Monarchs outhit Kingman 10-5, the 11th time in 12 games this season the Monarchs have outhit their opponent.

Down 1-0 in the second inning, the Monarchs tied it when Herrmann doubled down the left-field line, scoring Blake Bradford. Two innings later, Herrmann hit another double, scoring AJ Mustow and Bradford, giving the Monarchs the lead for good.

The Monarchs scored three runs in the fifth inning: Mustow singled home Jeter Worthley, Keegan Demmer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Jackson Legg, and Tyler Mitchell drove in Mustow on a fielder’s choice.

The Monarchs tacked on single runs in the sixth and ninth innings.

Carson Harrell was the winning pitcher, as he threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up a run on four hits, while striking out six. Daegan Vinduska pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings in relief, and Riley Dickey pitched the final three innings, giving up just one hit.

The Monarchs improved to 10-2 and have built a two-game lead on Great Bend in the Jayhawk Collegiate League standings. The Monarchs are scheduled to play again at 7 p.m. today against Kingman.
