MARION – Landon Hendricks rushed for 93 yards, and Jymer Raymer added nearly 200 total yards, leading Marion to a 36-12 win on Friday over Trinity Catholic.
Marion’s balanced offense was tough to stop. The Warriors had 15 first downs, and 307 yards of offense. The Warriors scored touchdowns on five consecutive drives from the first quarter to the third quarter.
The Celtics had a bright start. After forcing an early turnover but coming up empty, the Celtics held Marion and forced a punt. The next play, Jake Kerns broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run.
But that would be the only offensive score for the Celtics, who mustered only two first downs and 95 yards of offense.
Marion tied the game on the final play of the first quarter, as Jordy Raymer scored on a 4-yard run.
Isaac Wesner’s 23-yard touchdown catch midway through the second quarter gave Marion its first lead at 14-6, and Jymer Raymer added a 1-yard score with 25 seconds, pushing the lead to 22-6.
Wesner and Tripp Peterson added third-quarter touchdowns, and Marion also scored a safety in the fourth quarter after Trinity Catholic committed a penalty in its end zone.
Trinity had a late defensive score when Jacob Thomas scooped up a fumble and rumbled 51 yards to the end zone.
Marion improved to 2-1, while the Celtics fell to 1-2 and will host Inman next week.
