Put the phone down – slow down and watch for students on the move this week.

A new law singed by Governor Laura Kelly last spring prohibits handheld mobile devices inside active school zones and construction  zones. “Active” means in school zones when a reduced speed limit is enforced, and in construction zones while workers are present and signs are posted at the beginning of the road construction zone alerting drivers to such conditions.

School zones are coming back to life as students from USD 305 return to classes this week beginning August 12th and 13th. Around the area, students return to the classroom at Southeast of Saline on Wednesday, while at Ell-Saline — USD 307’s first day of school is Tuesday, August 18th.
