McClanahan Sets New School Record at Alex Francis Classic

HAYS, Kan. – Sterling College Track and Field competed at the 2026 Fort Hays State University Alex Francis Classic on Thursday, April 23. Only 13 Warriors competed in the meet with Aliya McClanahan posting a standout performance in the discus, setting a new school record of 41.67m (136-8) while three other Warriors posted new personal bests.

For the men, Kevin Jones posted a new personal best in the long jump with a leap of 6.39m (20-11.75) to finish ninth. Cameron Salazar also competed in the long jump where he finished 13th with a jump of 4.87m (15-11.75).

In the throws, Brayden Kermode threw a personal best in the discus with a throw of 36.45m (119-7) to finish 11th. Also competing in the discus was Blake Robertson who finished fourth with a throw of 46.22m (151-08). Kermode also competed in the hammer throw where he placed 12th with a heave of 39.18m (128-06) while Robertson competed in the shot put where he threw a 14.58m (47-10) to finish second.

Also competing in the throws were James Dickerman and Tod Mastin who represented the Warriors in the javelin throw. Dickerman threw a 47.10m (154-6) to finish seventh while Mastin placed 11th with a throw of 40.43m (132-04).

Nazar Haydon was the sole competitor for the Warriors on the track, finishing 30th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.05.

For the women, Aliyah McClanahan had a big day in the throws setting a new school record in the discus with a throw of 41.67m (136-8) to finish ninth. McClanahan also competed in the javelin where she placed fifth with a throw of 33.30m (109-3). Right behind her in the javelin throw was Briana Croisant who finished seventh with a throw of 28.52m (93-07). Croisant also competed in the hammer throw where she placed 15th with a heave of 34.87m (114-05).

Sterling will be back in action at the KCAC Championships on Thursday-Saturday, April 30-May 2. The meet will be hosted by Friends University in Wichita, Kan.
