Lady Warriors Sweep Bluejays

STERLING, Kan. – The Lady Warriors swept Tabor College on Thursday, April 9 with dominant performance across the board, including Jessica Gautreau’s first collegiate in No. 5 singles play.

Sterling started with a sweep of the doubles point. Danna Arroyo and Hannah Giordanelli started on a roll with a 6-1 win over Amy Holloway and Adah Branam in the No. 1 doubles match. In No. 2 doubles, Greta Fankhauser and Cylie LaTourell defeated Jacilyn Seachris and Ashley Jimenez, 6-3. Jessica Gautreau and Elysa Apen finished the sweep with a forfeit win in the No. 3 double match.

The Lady Warriors kept things rolling in singles play. Arroyo got the 6-0, 6-0 win over Holloway in No. 1 singles play. In the No. 2 singles match, Giordanelli defeated 6-4, 6-1. Fankhauser battled Branam in No. 3 singles play, winning the first set 6-4, followed by a 6-0 loss in set two before coming back to win the tiebreaker set 1-0.

LaTourell defeated Jimenz in No. 4 single, 6-1, 6-2, and Gautreau got her first collegiate win in the No. 5 singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Selyn Duke. Apen rounded out the sweep with a forfeit win in the No. 6 singles match.

Sterling will look to continue their win streak against Avila University on Saturday, April 11 in Lawrence, Kan. starting at 1 p.m.
