Sterling, Kan. – The Bethany College women’s soccer team opened conference play Wednesday afternoon in Sterling, Kan., taking on the Sterling College Warriors. The Swedes entered the match looking to build on their early season performance and continue developing chemistry with a mix of returning players and new faces.
The Swedes battled through the match against the Warriors. Bethany ended the game with a total of 13 shots, with five of them being shots on goal. The Swedes attack was led by Leila Jones, who had four shots with one of them being on target. Kellie McMahon also provided offensive pressure, with three shots, and two of them being shots on goal. Elizabeth Holland and Mariah Ibanez also applied offensive pressure. Both of them recording two shots, and one shot on goal each. Despite creating opportunities throughout the match, the Swedes were unable to find the back of the net. Sterling’s defense held the Swedes scoreless making the final score 2-0.
Defensively, the Swedes showed strengths. Marie Miera Y Moseley played all 90 minutes of the game and recorded one save. The Swedes defense held Sterling College to only 9 shots, and only 3 shots on goal. In addition to that they also held Sterling to 3 corner kicks, showing promising chemistry on defense. The Swedes allowed 2 goals in the first half, however kept Sterling College scoreless in the second half.
Although the swedes were unable to find the net, they continued to generate opportunities on the attack finishing the game with more shots, and more shots on goal.
