Lindsborg, Kan. – The Bethany College Swedes Men’s Soccer team fell 2-1 to Kansas Christian University Falcons in a hard-fought match at Coach Ted Kessinger Family Stadium.

A slow start from the Swedes allowed the Falcons to take the lead in the 9th minute through a deflected shot from close range. Throughout the rest of the first half, neither team was able to create much.

In the second half of the game, the Swedes showed fight and started to take control of the game by creating many opportunities to get back on level terms, but not being able to break through. Bethany continued to pressure Kansas Christian and eventually found the equalizer in the closing stages. Brandon Gomez scored a close-range header in the 82nd minute, converting a chance set up by Dylan Dickey to bring the Swedes level at 1-1. Just a few minutes later, Kansas Christian had a player sent off, putting the Swedes at an advantage. But ultimately, it was not meant to be for the Swedes, as Kansas Christian took the lead again late on in the 85th minute from a free kick. Despite playing a man down for the final minutes, Kansas Christian held off Bethany’s attack to preserve the 2-1 victory.

The Swedes will look to get themselves their first win of the season on to Saturday, August 29th, when they play Hesston College away from home.
