Bartlesville, Okla. – The Bethany College Swedes Softball team took a trip to Bartlesville, Okla. to take on the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles in a rescheduled matchup from March 14. This series was pivotal for the Swedes to reach playoffs needing just one win out of the two to clinch the eighth-seed.
GAME 1: SWEDES 3, EAGLES 2
The Swedes jumped on the board first in the second inning as Alex Udy would ground out to the shortstop allowing Ulissa Rivas to score and put the Swedes up 1-0. The Eagles would score two runs over the next two innings to take a 2-1 lead, but Shaylee Keslar picked a perfect time to hit her first homerun of the season with a two-run blast in the fifth that also score Megan O’Neal (courtesy runner for Udy) in the fifth inning. The Swedes defense would hold strong to preserve the 3-2 clinching win.
Six different Swedes recorded a hit in this one highlighted by Keslar’s homerun. Addilyn Miller would show off the wheels with another stolen base giving her 10 on the year.
Mackenzie Yoder drew the start lasting 3.0 innings with a strikeout. Dylann Baker entered in relief and had a heck of a game. In 4.0 innings of work, Baker struck out nine Eagles while only allowing three singles.
GAME 2: SWEDES 0, EAGLES 8
The latter game of the series lacked luster as the Swedes were only able to tally two hits throughout the contest: Addilyn Miller led off the game with a single to center field and Kalee Aguilar hit a single in the third. Miller was also able to steal a base making it 11 on the year while Emmaline Senecaut stole her fifth of the season.
Jordyn Stelzig got the start lasting 4.2 innings while striking out two batters. Amia Alexander-Sims entered in relief for the final 1.0 inning also striking out one.
Up Next…
The Swedes are playoff bound for the first time since 2023! They await the results of the OKWU vs Ottawa series which is on Saturday, April 25. That series will set the top four seeds of the tournament. Until then, Bethany can take a couple of days to enjoy this milestone before gearing up for their next opponent in the first round of the KCAC Softball Championships on Wednesday, April 29.
