The McPherson County Community Foundation will host its annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Walk on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Memorial Park, located at 308 W. Kansas Ave. in McPherson. This walk is free and open to everyone.
You can walk at your own pace and join others in raising awareness for mental health. Memorial signs will line the path, allowing families to honor loved ones lost to suicide. If you want to create a sign, call the Foundation at (620) 245-9070 and send your submission by September 18.
Many local organizations will share resources at the event. You can pick up informational handouts and visit booths from partners like NAMI, United Way, and the McPherson County Health Department. These groups work together to improve mental health in the community.
Kansas ranks 12th in the nation for suicide rates, with 19.6 deaths per 100,000 residents. Events like this aim to reduce stigma and connect people to help they may need.
If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
