City of Lindsborg Receives Clean 2025 Audit, Approves Grant Matters

The Lindsborg City Council received an audit report Monday giving the city’s financial records an unmodified, or clean opinion based on the regulatory basis of accounting used by nearly every local government in the state of Kansas.

In review of the audit by Adams Brown, it was indicated the city’s cash balances over the past year increased by $1.6 million, with a year-end cash balance of $13.525 million. All of the city’s cash balances were covered by FDIC insurance or through pledged securities.

The audit report also noted the city’s liabilities connected to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System and related to the city’s small interest in a power plant in Missouri that sustained considerable damage in 2025.

A resolution was adopted authorizing submission of a Community Development Block Grant for Commercial Rehabilitation. This application is for rehabilitation of a building at 106 North Main which a local investor group purchased last year. In addition to the main floor space used by an existing local business, an upstairs apartment that is being vacated later this month

The Council approved a memorandum of understanding with McPherson County Community Foundation for handling of any disaster related donations if there would ever be a need for that. A couple of Council members asked whether consideration had been given to a similar agreement with the Smoky Valley Community Foundation, which is a component of the Greater Salina Community Foundation.

The Council approved a grant agreement with the Sunflower Foundation for a Trail Town grant it was recently awarded. Parks Director Noah Flores said part of this $25,000 grant will be used to add lighting on the north end of the Valkommen Trail, with the remainder to be used for programming space. This grant requires a local match of $12,500, which will come from Park Department and reserve funds.
