31 local bridge projects will share in over $40.5 million in state and federal funding announced this week by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
About half of the funds will come through the Kansas Local Bridge Improvement Program, which will replace 15 bridges and remove four others. The remainder comes from the Federal Off-System Bridge Program which targets bridges not on the federal aid system.
One project awarded locally through the Kansas Local Bridge program is in Marion County, involving replacement of a bridge under the state program a mile east and 5.2 miles north of Peabody, awarded $1.65 million with a $220,276 local contribution. It’s also getting $50,000 to remove another bridge.
Through the federal program a bridge on Avenue W over Cow Creek about nine miles east of Sterling will be replaced, and the City of Hutchinson will get funds to replace a bridge on East 6th over the East Side Drain.
