The future of Fort Hays State University’s Sternberg Museum remains uncertain.
On Thursday, University President Tisa Mason spoke to the Hays City Commission, explaining that no official decisions have been made yet. The university is dealing with a $2.4 million reduction in state funding.
Mason said the museum’s yearly budget stands at about $1.3 million. She also pointed out that the building needs around $20 million in repairs and maintenance that have not been addressed.
The university has not shared a timeline for the decision. Mason said officials will provide updates to the public as soon as possible.
