WINFIELD, Kan. – Humboldt sophomore Connor Newman went into the second day of the KSHSAA 2A State Golf Tournament with a two-stroke lead in the individual standings. He followed that up on day two with a three-stroke advantage, finishing at even par for the two-day event and bringing home the individual championship.
Newman finished the tournament with a total score of 144, five strokes ahead of second place finisher Caleb Cleverdon of Cair Paravel Latin School who finished at 149. Newman was the only area golfer to bring home a medal from the State meet. Ty Barnhart of Erie made it to the second day, but finished in a tie for 27th for the tournament.
