Two men were injured just before 5 PM Thursday when their plane crashed north of Chanute.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said the plane lost engine function southwest of Chanute and tried to land at Martin Johnson Airport. Due to cloud cover they missed their approach and diverted to land in a field. The plan went into a nosedive east of US 169 near 240th Road, landed on it’s top and started to slide north, flipping back up.
A passing motorist drove through a field and stoppled the plane with their vehicle, at which point a gust of wind caught a parachute causing the plane to flip over the vehicle, dragging it west across the highway, stopping in a tree row.
The Pilot, John Von Fange from South Carolina and passenger Tuck Duck of Kannopolis, South Carolina, were taken to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center with reported minor injuries.
