IOLA, Kan. — K-State Research and Extension’s Southwind District will invite area residents to learn more about monarch butterflies during its “Monarchs, Milkweed, and More” program Saturday, Sept. 26. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Southwind Extension District office, 1006 N. State St. in Iola.
The program will offer participants a closer look at monarch butterflies and the important role milkweed and other native plants play in supporting pollinators. K-State notes that milkweed species provide food and habitat for monarchs and other pollinators, making native plantings an important part of creating beneficial habitat.
The event is part of programming offered through the Southwind Extension District, which serves Allen, Bourbon, Neosho and Woodson counties. The district provides research-based educational programs in agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development and community vitality.
