A project to replace the Little Canville Creek bridge northwest of Stark on U.S. 59 will start the week of Aug. 3, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
The contractor will first build a temporary road, including placing a temporary bridge, on the east side of the Little Canville Creek bridge to carry traffic around the project. This road should be done in early October, conditions permitting. After that, U.S. 59 traffic will be diverted to the temporary road as the Canville bridge, built in 1959, is removed and replaced.
Work will occur during daylight hours Monday through Friday, and the project is expected to be completed in early June 2027, conditions permitting.
Bridges Inc., of Newton, has the contract totaling $3.6 million.
KDOT urges motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from hand-held mobile device use in all active work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511.
