IOLA, Kan. — Allen Community College sophomore Bodee West has earned the American FFA Degree, the National FFA Organization’s highest degree, recognizing years of achievement in agriculture, leadership and community service.

West, a graduate of Oklahoma Union High School in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, is pursuing an agribusiness degree at Allen. He also plays for the Red Devil baseball team, serves as Student Senate president and represents Allen’s Collegiate Farm Bureau chapter.

Earning the American FFA Degree requires members to first receive their State FFA Degree and complete extensive requirements involving agricultural work experience, recordkeeping, leadership and community service. West began that work in high school and continued it at Allen.

His involvement includes agricultural competitions, service projects and outreach efforts that teach younger generations about agriculture. During his first year at Allen, he received the Freshman Farmer Award for outstanding leadership and involvement.

West also recently received an opportunity to continue his baseball career at the University of Central Oklahoma after completing his studies at Allen.

He is preparing for the upcoming baseball season while remaining active in Collegiate Farm Bureau, the Young Farmers & Ranchers Quiz Bowl and NACTA agricultural judging competitions.
