IOLA, Kan. — Allen Community College and Newman University are proud to announce a new partnership that will bring university bachelor’s degree opportunities directly to the Allen campus, allowing students to continue their education close to home while pursuing four-year degrees.
The partnership allows students who earn an associate degree from Allen Community College to continue their education through Newman University and pursue a bachelor’s degree without relocating. The initiative is part of a broader expansion of the HERE program from Newman University.
“We are excited to offer this new opportunity to our students in partnership with Newman University. Our community will greatly benefit from experienced professionals joining the workforce, contributing to our local business and industry, health care, schools, companies and agriculture,” said Dr. Lyvier Leffler, president of Allen Community College.
The HERE program is designed to increase access to bachelor’s degrees for students who may face barriers associated with relocating or attending a traditional four-year institution away from home. Through flexible course delivery options, including online, evening and traditional classes, students can continue their education while balancing work, family and other responsibilities.
According to Newman University, the program has already helped more than 70 students earn bachelor’s degrees through partnerships with community colleges in southwest Kansas. Allen is one of three new community college partners joining the initiative, expanding opportunities for students across the state.
“We are thrilled to expand into three more communities,” said Alden Stout, vice president for academic affairs at Newman University. “With over 70 lives changed by bachelor’s degrees already, we could not be more excited to see what the future holds for students in Allen, Hutchinson and Colby. Knowledge is power and we will continue to grow this program to make higher education accessible to students across Kansas.”
The partnership reflects Allen Community College’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and creating pathways that help students achieve their academic and career goals. By bringing bachelor’s degree options to Iola, the partnership also supports workforce development efforts throughout southeast Kansas by helping students gain advanced credentials while remaining connected to the communities where they live and work.
