The Allen Community College Red Devils Shooting Sports team capped a successful weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, with multiple individual podium finishes, a team trophy, and record setting performances at the final leg of the Tri States Shoot Series, held April 10–11.
Competition opened Saturday at Defender Outdoors Clay Sports Ranch with Sporting Clays, where student-athletes worked through challenging target presentations. Shaun McLaughlin, Iola, finished with a 45 after a strong rebound, Jaryt Hess, Humboldt, posted a 69, Sheldon Weber, Silver Lake recorded a 68, and Jozie Stagg, Mapleton, shot a 67 to earn third place among female competitors. Weston Cleaver, Chanute led the field with an 84, securing first place by an eight-target margin.
Saturday afternoon moved to the historic Fort Worth Trap & Skeet Club, where the team produced a new cumulative team record in Skeet, despite rainy conditions. Cleaver shot a 93, Hess an 84, Stagg a personal record 89, Weber an 88, and McLaughlin a personal record 80. Cleaver and Weber each shot a perfect round of 25. Stagg’s score earned her second-place female, while Cleaver’s 93 secured third place.
Sunday morning concluded with American Trap at Fort Worth Trap & Skeet. Stagg and Hess led again with matching 93s, followed by Cleaver with an 89, McLaughlin with an 83, and Weber with a 59. Stagg’s performance earned her second place in Trap.
When scores from all three disciplines were combined, Stagg finished second High Overall among females. In the men’s High Overall competition, Cleaver tied for second and third before finishing third overall following a shootoff.
The Red Devils also earned second place team for the weekend, bringing home a team trophy.
The Tri State Shoot Series consisted of three weekend events, with Fort Worth serving as the final leg. Overall team placements were determined by the top two High Overall team scores from across the series. In the program’s inaugural year, the Red Devils finished third place overall, marking a significant milestone for the growing program.
