Kansas Junior Livestock Show Awards $22,500 in Scholarships

HUTCHINSON — Twelve exhibitors received a combined $22,500 in scholarships at the Kansas Junior Livestock Show on Saturday, Oct. 3. Since its inception in 1993, the program has awarded $620,050 to 423 young people pursuing higher education.

The scholarships recognize achievement in livestock projects, leadership and education while helping recipients cover college expenses.

Cami Miller of El Dorado and Cassidy Dalquest of Wilsey received $2,750 each. Jewel Endicott of Uniontown, Leah Howard of Ellsworth and Aden Grathwohl of Hiawatha each received $1,800.

Kinsley Gillig of Blue Rapids, Ella Hoeltzel of Olsburg, Ella Neher of Pfeifer and Kamryn Kirkham of Hugoton each earned $2,000 scholarships. Hannah Fieser of Plains and Katie Aubert of Rossville received $1,300 each, while Genayla Warnken of Manhattan received $1,000.

Scholarship supporters included Cargill, Farm Credit Associations of Kansas, the Coonrod Family Foundation and several community and memorial funds. Industry sponsors also supported the livestock competitions, with Innovative Livestock Services sponsoring the beef show and Cargill underwriting the sheep and goat shows.

High school seniors planning to attend a postsecondary school and students already enrolled are eligible for KJLS scholarships.
