LA HARPE, KAN. – ACARF is asking for community support as the animal rescue organization says it could be forced to close its doors within months without additional financial assistance.
The organization reports it has rescued more than 500 dogs and cats over the past year, providing veterinary care, food, medication and shelter to animals in need. Among its recent rescues are eight puppies reportedly abandoned along a road in 108-degree heat, with burned paws, severe malnutrition and flea infestations; one of the puppies is now fighting a life-threatening infection that has become septic.
ACARF says donations of any amount, along with monthly contributions and community outreach, are needed to help cover rising veterinary and operating costs and allow the organization to continue caring for animals.
