MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the week ending September 6, 2026, there were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 34% very short, 40% short, 21% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 31% very short, 38% short, 27% adequate, and 4% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 17% very poor, 20% poor, 22% fair, 31% good, and 10% excellent. Corn dough was 97%, equal to last year, and near 96% for the five-year average. Dented was 86%, near 83% last year and 82% average. Mature was 53%, ahead of 42% both last year and average. Harvested was 18%, ahead of 2% last year and 9% average.
Soybean condition rated 10% very poor, 19% poor, 34% fair, 30% good, and 7% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 94%, near 91% last year and 90% average. Dropping leaves was 26%, ahead of 13% last year and 18% average.
Sorghum condition rated 15% very poor, 23% poor, 31% fair, 20% good, and 11% excellent. Sorghum headed was 89%, behind 96% last year and 94% average. Coloring was 59%, near 61% last year, and equal to average. Mature was 27%, ahead of 21% last year and 15% average. Harvested was 1%, near 2% last year, and equal to average.
Cotton condition rated 9% very poor, 21% poor, 43% fair, 24% good, and 3% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 97%, near 99% last year, and equal to average. Bolls opening was 46%, well ahead of 17% last year, and ahead of 33% average. Harvested was 1%.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 18% very poor, 23% poor, 36% fair, 21% good, and 2% excellent.
