MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the week ending August 23, 2026, there were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 25% very short, 36% short, 36% adequate, and 3% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 25% very short, 38% short, 34% adequate, and 3% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 14% very poor, 17% poor, 27% fair, 34% good, and 8% excellent. Corn silking was 97%, equal to last year, and near 98% for the five-year average. Dough was 87%, equal to last year, and near 85% average. Dented was 55%, near 53% last year and 54% average. Mature was 16%, ahead of 10% last year, and near 12% average.
Soybean condition rated 4% very poor, 13% poor, 33% fair, 44% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 94%, near 91% last year and 92% average. Setting pods was 78%, near 77% last year and 75% average. Dropping leaves was 2%, near 1% last year, and equal to average.
Sorghum condition rated 12% very poor, 21% poor, 39% fair, 22% good, and 6% excellent. Sorghum headed was 72%, behind 83% last year and 81% average. Coloring was 28%, equal to both last year and average. Mature was 3%, near 5% last year and 2% average.
Cotton condition rated 5% very poor, 21% poor, 49% fair, 21% good, and 4% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 93%, near 95% last year and 92% average. Bolls opening was 13%, near 12% last year and 15% average.
Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 11% very poor, 19% poor, 35% fair, 28% good, and 7% excellent.
