Hutchinson CC Sports Information
Backed by a shutout week in three appearances, Hutchinson Community College sophomore pitcher Jessica Schmidt was named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Schmidt is the third Blue Dragon pitcher this season to win the weekly conference award. Mia Williams won it in Week 6 and Aubree Thomas won it in Week 11.
A left-handed pitcher from Norfolk, Nebraska, Schmidt earned two wins in the circle last week and allowed only two hits and no runs over her 6 2-3 innings of work for the first-place Blue Dragons.
She earned the win in Hutchinson’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Garden City last Wednesday, going 1 2-3 innings of shutout relief with three strikeouts.
In her start against Fort Hays Tech Northwest on Saturday at Fun Valley, Schmidt threw three perfect innings, striking out 8 of the 9 batters she faced.
Schmidt is also the nation’s leader in saves with seven. She is 5-2 with a stellar 2.10 ERA for the season in 23 appearances.
