Salina Central High School’s Cooper Reves was named Most Valuable Player of the West team and Washington High School’s Savion Stone was named the East Team MVP in the 53rd Kansas Shrine Bowl football game Saturday at Emporia State University’s Welch Stadium.
The East Team defeated the West Team 14-7. Full statistics for the Shrine Bowl game were released Monday morning.
Welch Stadium was the site of Salina Central’s Kansas Class 5A state championship victory over Basehor-Linwood in November. Salina Central captured its first football state championship in 20 years.
Reves, 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, rushed for 91 yards for the West Team.
He was named the Kansas Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year after rushing for 2,814 yards and 33 touchdowns. He will wrestle at the University of Northern Iowa next season.
Mulvane’s Manny Myers rushed for 26 yards and completed 10-of-21 passes for 65 yards for the West Team.
Great Bend’s Daxton Minton completed 8-of-12 passes for 76 yards and added 22 yards rushing. Salina South’s Jaxson Myers caught 5 passes for 58 yards.
Stone (6-2, 205 pounds), who will play football at Hutchinson Community College, completed 6-of-7 passes for 54 yards and one TD for the East Team. He also rushed for 21 yards.
Shawnee Heights’ Aiden Scott completed 5-of-7 passes for 62 yards and one touchdown for the East Team. Carter Hajek of Nemaha Central led the East squad with 59 yards rushing.
Mill Valley’s Blake Jay caught 4 passes for 48 yards, including a 27-yard TD pass from Stone. Lenexa-St. James Academy’s Alec Jett caught 2 passes for 37 yards, including a 24-yard TD pass from Scott.
Hutchinson High School’s Jackson Anderson, Andale’s Sam Harp and Wichita Bishop Carroll’s Landon Steven each had 5 tackles to lead the West defense.
Hutchinson Trinity Catholic’s Drew Dechant made 1 solo tackle. Derby’s Houston Bowlin recovered a fumble in the end zone for the West Team’s points.
Holton’s Cael Frazier led the East team in tackles with 7.
