A time of 9 minutes,13.11 seconds in the age 17/18 division 4×800-meter relay earned the Kansas foursome of Ashley Lehman, Eleanor Joiner, Dylan Kraus and Grace Zeller the title of AAU Junior Olympic National Champions.
The AAU Junior Olympics took place Aug. 1-8 at Drake University Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
The relay team featured four outstanding Kansas athletes with impressive track and cross country résumés.
Ashley Lehman (Hesston)
One of the most versatile athletes in Kansas history, with all-time marks across six events:
• 100m: 11.65w (#13 all-time)
• 200m: 24.10 (#10 all-time)
• 400m: 54.02 (#5 all-time)
• 800m: 2:08.96 (#4 all-time)
• 300m Hurdles: 43.08 (#6 all-time)
• Pole Vault: 12-8¼ (#13 all-time)
Eleanor Joiner (Ellinwood)
• 4th at State Cross Country last year
• 5th at State in the 4×800
• 4th at State in the 4×400
Dylan Kraus (Marion)
• 2A State Runner Up in the 400m
• 2A State Champion in the 800m
Grace Zeller (Wabaunsee)
• 3rd at State in the 400m
• 1A State Champion in the 800m
