The 2026 Hoisington High School volleyball team will try to build on a strong 2025 season.
The Cardinals finished with a 39-7 record in 2025 and placed fourth at the Class 3A state tournament.
Hoisington was the Central Kansas League co-champions in 2025 with Hesston (27-14) and Halstead (31-6). Hillsboro posted a 35-14 record.
Mykela Bartz enters her fifth season as the program’s head coach with a 130-38 record.
The Cardinals bring back six varsity players from last year’s team, giving Hoisington a strong foundation heading into the new season.
“We’re excited,” Bartz told Sports in Kansas. “We have a strong base of returning varsity players and several girls working hard to fill the open spots. Plus we have an amazing senior class who will be great leaders for us. We’re hopeful to get another chance at a long post-season run.”
Senior outside hitter Sofia Simic leads the returning group after earning All-State recognition in each of the past two seasons.
Senior outside hitter Kinley Wilkens is another key returner and could be in line for a breakout season.
Sophomore Brynlee Schremmer will be counted on at outside hitter or right side hitter.
Hoisington hosts the Central Kansas League Tournament on Saturday.
The Cardinals open tournament play with a 9 a.m. Pool A match against Nickerson (11-25), followed by Nickerson vs. Haven (15-21) at 10 a.m. and Hoisington vs. Haven at 11 a.m.
In Pool B, Halstead plays Smoky Valley (20-17) at 9 a.m., followed by Pratt (9-28) vs. Smoky Valley at 10 a.m. and Halstead vs. Pratt at 11 a.m.
In Pool C, Hesston plays Hillsboro at 9 a.m., Hillsboro plays Larned at 10 a.m. and Hesston plays Larned at 11 a.m.
Bracket play matches start at 12:30 p.m. The third- and fifth-place matches will be played at 2:30 p.m. and the championship at 3:30 p.m.
Consolation matches will take place at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Hoisington hosts Scott City at 5 p.m. and Southeast of Saline at 7 p.m.
