Haven High School senior Isaiah Doherty captured first place in the varsity boys 5K run at the Smoky Valley Invitational cross country meet Thursday at the Lindsborg golf course.
The Haven boys placed seventh in the team standings with 144 points.
Doherty was clocked at 17 minutes, 24.28 seconds and led the Wildcats to a seventh-place team finish. Haven scored 144 points.
Also placing in the top 20 for Haven was junior Jayden Idacavage, who placed 17th (20:14.19).
Junior Wyatt Bontrager placed 38th (22:41.02), followed by sophomore Kayden Geffert, 43rd (22:51.74; junior Aiden Rich-Adkins, 45th (22:58.53); junior Atreyu Micheli, 48th (23:13.03) and sophomore Evan Inlow, 51st (23:29.03).
Four Haven Middle School eighth grade boys runners placed in the top 10 in the two-mile competition: Derek Kelly, third (13:53.42); Jordan Fuentes, sixth (14:20.35); Micah Bontrager, seventh (14:32.75); and Eli Showalter, 10th (15:51.6).
Jordan Armstrong placed 12th (16:38.8) and Colt Smith finished 15th (18:09.93).
Haven’s Alana Behnk and Arya Davis placed second and third in the seventh grade girls one-mile race (7:15.37 and 7:17.76).
Haven’s Matilda Scott placed 10th in the eighth grade girls two-mile race (20:11.68) and Charlotte Hellman placed 12th (23:57.58).
Lyons sophomore Aaron Villasenor places 5th at Smoky Valley cross country meet
Lyons High School sophomore Aaron Villasenor placed fifth in the Smoky Valley Invitational 5K varsity boys race Thursday at the Lindsborg Golf Course with a time of 18 minutes, 41.69 seconds.
Villasenor paced the Lyons boys to a ninth-place team finish with 171 points.
Junior Derek Valerio placed 27th (20:58.84), followed by senior Edgard Morales, 32nd (22:05.09); senior Dale Loughridge, 53rd (24:06.75); sophomore Grayson Lee, 54th (24:23.72); senior Kolby Peter, 55th (24:51.65); and sophomore Jon Steele, 56th (24:52.92).
Lyons Middle School’s Vicky Torres placed fourth in the seventh-grade girls one-mile race with a time of 7:22.12. Teammate Lexi Loughridge placed 13th (10:07).
Lyons’ Tori Wiig placed sixth in the eighth grade girls two-mile race (16:05.23). Joel Gonzalez placed eighth in the eighth grade boys two-mile race (14:44.59).
Isamir Trejo placed 21st in the seventh-grade boys one-mile race (10:32.51).
Nickerson, Reno Valley cross country runners post strong efforts at Smoky Valley Invitational
The Nickerson High School and Reno Valley Middle School boys and girls cross country teams opened the season Thursday morning at the Smoky Valley Invitational at the Lindsborg Golf Course.
The Nickerson varsity boys placed sixth with 129 points and the Nickerson varsity girls finished sixth with 143 points.
“We had a great day on the course at the Smoky Valley Invitational, and I am incredibly proud of how hard our runners competed at the Lindsborg Golf Course,” said Nickerson/Reno Valley cross country coach Kimberly Workman on the team’s Facebook page.
“Across both the middle school and high school levels, our athletes showed incredible heart, grit and determination in heat and high winds.”
“A huge shoutout goes to seventh grader Chevie Kinast, who took home first place in the middle school race with a time of 7:08.47. We also had several top-10 finishes and strong running throughout the day.”
