The Buhler High School girls swim and dive team captured second place at the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League championship Friday at the Hutchinson YMCA.

Winfield won the AVCTL 3/4 championship with 444.5 points, followed by  Buhler with 340.5, Wichita Collegiate 313, Wellington 217, McPherson 160, El Dorado 116, Towanda-Circle 65, Wichita Independent 28, Belle Plaine, Rose Hill 7 and Clearwater  3.

“Today was a great day to be a Crusader,” said Buhler swim coach Shane DeWeese. “Swimmers scored top 16. Four swimmers from each team could score. Only A relays scored as well.

“This is one of the best finishes as a team for league. With several qualifying and consideration times for state, the team will travel to state next weekend.

“This was a great way to finish out the regular season and our final meet ever in this Hutch YMCA. Next year, the team will be in a new building with a new pool and the girls cannot wait.”

The Buhler medley relay A team hit some really fast splits, but unfortunately they were disqualified. It was not how the girls wanted to start the meet, but they pulled it all together for the rest of the meet.

The 200 freestyle was next. Hannah Swain medaled in second place. Reyne Kaufman took fifth place, earning a state consideration time. Payton Ball took ninth and Maddie Moore tied for 12th.

Avery Schrader earned fourth in the 200 individual medley, Addy Tech took sixth, Berkley Bosley 12th and Hannah Whitney 13th.

Regan Walle took eighth in the 50 freestyle and Harper Kendrick took 16th.

Buhler’s Evey Brooks is the league champion for diving and earned a personal record.

Griffyn Showalter placed sixth in the 100 butterfly, Payton Ball ninth, Addie Maxfield 10th and Hannah Whitney 11th.

In the 100 freestyle, Reyne Kaufman took sixth, Regan Walle earned eighth, Abby Ehret 13th and Lauren Auxier 16th.

The 200 free A relay team of Addy Tech, Harper Kendrick, Evey Brooks and Reyne Kaufman took fourth place with a time of 2:00.13
