BUHLER — The Buhler boys soccer team captured a Class 4-1A regional championship Thursday night, defeating Winfield 5-2 at Crusader Stadium to advance to Monday’s state quarterfinals.

The Crusaders took a 2-1 lead into halftime before adding three second-half goals to secure the victory and improve to 13-5-0.

Aiden Long scored twice for Buhler, while Jackson Tanklsey, Easton Fischer and Jaydon Adcock each added a goal.

Rose Hill, Berean Academy and McPherson also claimed regional titles in the West. Buhler went 1-2 against those three teams during the regular season.

KSHSAA announced Thursday that the state championship and consolation matches have been relocated to Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.

The association said the decision followed the tragic Oct. 17 incident at Scheels Stryker Sports Complex and was made in the best interest of participating schools and communities affected by the tragedy.

All three consolation matches and all three championship matches will be played Nov. 7.
